4Home and Verizon Wireless Showcase Connected Home Services for 4G LTE Network

At CES 2011, 4Home Demonstrates Jointly Developed Energy Management, Home Monitoring and New Mobile Broadband Services with Verizon Wireless

LAS VEGAS and BASKING RIDGE, N.J- CES-– From the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), 4Home Connected Solutions, a division of Motorola Mobility, Inc., announced connected home services that leverage the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Mobile Broadband network. Real-time remote monitoring and control of consumers’ homes and their energy consumption will be possible using select smartphones. This collaboration between 4Home and Verizon Wireless will be showcased during CES at the Verizon Wireless booth.

“4Home has been working with Verizon Wireless and the LTE Innovation Center for more than a year to develop these second-generation connected home services for LTE,” said Jeff Crews, director of business development at 4Home. “Offering these kinds of value-added services over LTE only enhances the customer experience. Homeowners can enjoy faster response times and real-time, high-quality video streaming when viewing their homes from Verizon Wireless LTE-enabled handsets.”

Overview of Connected Home Services and LTE
Connected home services are a new generation of consumer services that allow users to remotely monitor and control the connected devices in their homes, individually and as a system. The services currently include energy management, home security and monitoring, home health, and media management. The 4G LTE network allows these services to be offered on compatible phones, further enhancing the mobile experience.

“Verizon Wireless’ ongoing work with 4Home through the Innovation Center is a great example of how a collaborative approach will result in consumer- and business-friendly solutions,” said Brian Higgins, executive director, LTE ecosystem development at Verizon Wireless. “Connected home services are made better by the power and capabilities of our 4G LTE network.”

Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE network is the fastest, most advanced 4G mobile network in the United States, providing speeds up to 10 times faster than its 3G network. In addition, the company is turning on its 4G LTE network at more than 60 commercial airports, most within the 38 initial market launch areas and some outside those areas, for added convenience for road warriors. The company’s 4G LTE network ultimately will connect a full range of electronic devices and machines to each other.

“We continue to see more leading service providers entering the connected home market,” said Bill Ablondi, director of home systems research at Parks Associates. “Not only is this suite of services an ideal extension of service providers’ current offerings; our research shows that consumers desire to be connected to their homes as well as other people. It looks like 2011 will be the year the smartphone becomes the next generation of universal remote controller.”
